Honeycutt wins again at North Wilkesboro in the CARS Pro Late Model race

Kaden Honeycutt picked up right where he left off in October, winning the CARS Pro Late Model Tour race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Honeycutt led every lap en route to his win in the Reverend Sour Mash Whiskey 75. He won the season finale for the series last year at the speedway to clinch the drivers championship. Honeycutt started on pole and had a comfortable lead most of the race, but Dawson Sutton caught him late in the race due to lap traffic, however he was not able to get past Honeycutt.

“[It’s] just awesome man,” Honeycutt said in victory lane.

“We had a really good car tonight. I was taking my time there the last couple laps with those lappers. I saw Dawson was running me down pretty quickly, so I decided to turn back up and get past those lappers. [It was] pretty hectic those last couple laps. I’m just happy for this team. FURY Race Cars and everyone that does an amazing job helping out this program. I’m just very lucky to be a part of it”

When Honeycutt won the finale last year, he was focused on clinching a championship. This time was a different scenario, but he carried the same fiery spirit from October into this weekend.

“We came out here guns blazing last year determined to win and there’s nothing really different about this team [compared to last year]. We go out there to win races. We don’t go to run around and take fifth as a good day. [When] we [finish] fifth, we’re up all night trying to figure out what we need to do to be better. This team just wants to go kick butt and just win, and that’s what I want to do.”

The Willow Park, Texas native will be pulling triple-duty this weekend, racing in the No. 5 Late Model Stock for Hettinger Racing in Friday night’s CARS Tour Race and in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Saturday in his usual No. 45 Niece Motorsports ride.

Honeycutt started from pole, but a big crash on the initial start caused a red/yellow flag. Isaac Kitzmiller missed a shift, leading to a massive stack up and ending several drivers day before it even started.

Honeycutt fired off from pole again and was able to get away from the field. The next yellow fell on lap nine for Brandan Marhefka slowing on the backstretch. On the ensuing restart, he again opened up a gap, and the field completed 40 green flag laps, leading to the competition caution coming out.

This time, Sutton was able to hang onto Honeycutt’s rear bumper on the restart, but could not make a move. Honeycutt maintained the lead even through heavy lap traffic in the last five laps to take the checkered flag.

Sutton finished in second, with Keelan Harvick coming home in third. Spencer Davis finished in fourth and Josh Berry completed the top five.
