MARTINSVILLE, VA – After failing to make the field for the ValleyStar Credit Union 300, Andrew Grady expressed his displeasure with Davey Callihan with a series of punches immediately following the first heat race at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday.
Video of the incident, which was posted to NASCAR’s Twitter account, has since gone viral after being retweeted by prominent figures and media outlets – including former NFL superstar Chad Johnson, AKA Ochocinco.

“We were really, really good, car was really fast, but you get these dumbasses that run with us and they have no business running a Late Model, much less a lawnmower,” Grady said. “He wasn’t close, he divebombed me, he hooked me, he wrecked Brandon Pierce in the process. I wanted to talk to him and he flipped me off, so I started Mike Tyson’ing his head. You’re in a big boy sport. When you wreck a man, you can take a grown man asswhipping. That’s how I feel.”
Callihan, who muscled Katie Hettinger out of the way for the last transfer spot in the first heat, disputed Grady’s version of events.
“It’s for the transfer spot at Martinsville,” Callihan told Racing America’s Matt Weaver. “From my perspective, I was there. You can’t give an inch for the transfer spot when there’s 95 cars and I had to take it. Just hard racing. I do apologize to [Grady] but we’re fighting for our life out there. Just did what I had to do. I never flipped anybody else. He just come started punching me inside the racecar. I understand he’s frustrated, but again it’s for the transfer spot and we’re fighting for our life.”
