The Hunt for the Bear is moving to March.

The Alabama 200 will remain a Pro Late Model race next season with Montgomery Motor Speedway officials revealing on Wednesday that it will take place from March 1-2 next season. That means the biggest race of the season near Alabama’s capital will become the season-opener.

“We’ve traditionally run the Alabama 200 going way back as late as November,” said Stan Narrison, the Promoter of Montgomery Motor Speedway.  “We’ve had some pretty good crowds for our Alabama 200 the last couple years but we just felt like we could get a little bit more play out of it and start our year off with our biggest race.

“We’re pretty excited to kick the year off with that.  It will be our first Show Me the Money race for the 2019 season.”

The race will once again pay $7,500 to the winner.

“We’re really working on the purse right now and some extra incentives, especially for the top 10 finishers,” he explained. “We’ll announce the rest of the purse at a later date but it will be very similar to what we’ve paid for the Alabama 200 the last couple years. That was originally a Super Late Model purse and we just rolled it over.”

The race will also move to just a two-day show in the hopes of saving teams money.
