Appeals panel amends Treyten Lapcevich, Chad Bryant Racing North Wilkesboro disqualification

The win is upheld but the team and driver are not credited with the points and prize money

Treyten Lapcevich and the Chad Bryant Racing No. 77 team have had their victory from the August 3 CARS Tour race at North Wilkesboro Speedway reinstated but will not receive the prize money or championship results associated with it.

Those are the results of an appeal hearing held on Tuesday in Mooresville, North Carolina in which Bryant made their case before a panel consisting of former longtime NASCAR official David Hoots, South Boston Speedway general manager Brandon Brown and veteran racer Kevin Powell.

“We understand and accept the decision made this afternoon by the Appeals board,” said CARS Tour Executive Director Kip Childress. “We appreciate the time and effort given by the board to hear this appeal and we understand that there is a need on our part to continue to work on our processes and procedures as we grow as a sanctioning body.”

The team was in violation of the following rule.

“14. Only quick-change rear end center sections with a minimum cross section height of 12 inches at the center of the rear axle with a side bell minimum diameter of 12 inches and magnetic steel spur gears on the back side will be permitted.”

It used a 9″ Ford rear end housing as opposed to a quick change but it was a matter of semantics as the rule does not specifically state all the rear ends that cannot be run. That was a point of contention as was the fact that the rear end was checked and approved in both pre-race and post-race inspection.
