William Byron will start his final Kyle Busch Motorsports start from the pole in the 49th Snowball Derby.

The soon-to-be Hendrick Motorsports development driver bested a field of 56 Super Late Model drivers and will lead the field to green in the Super Bowl of Short Track Racing. The reigning NASCAR Truck Series wins leader was the sixth to turn laps and quickly set the bar.

It seemed destined that he would be joined on the front row by his KBM teammate Christopher Bell but the clean sweep was eventually broken-up by Ty Majeski, whom will line up next to Byron for the start on Sunday.

Only 30 drivers locked themselves into the race based on their qualifying time on Friday night and the rest were sent to Saturday’s last chance race. In fact, several big names are heading there, including all three entries from the powerful David Gilliland Racing stable.

That includes Todd Gilliland, whom was the fastest in practice, and reigning CARS Tour champion Raphael Lessard.

Other notables forced to the ‘hooligan’ showdown includes veteran Logan Boyett, Jeremy Pate, Stephen Nasse, Dalton Armstrong, Bret Holmes, Dalton Sargeant and Spencer Gallagher.  That race will transfer just five drivers so the intensity has ramped up.

David Rogers posted the 53rd best time (third worst) but earned a starting spot based on a Five Flags Speedway track standings provisional. All full-time Southern Super Series drivers and previous event champions made the race on time so those provisionals won’t be needed.

Of note, Boris Jurkovic crashed in Turn 3 before turning a lap and did not post a time. Here is everything you need to know about Saturday’s Last Chance Race.
