SRL Calls off Midweek I-44 Speedway Race

Citing a forecast that currently shows tremendously hot temperatures but blue skies, SRL National has canceled its race for Thursday at I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Missouri.

An extreme heat wave is expected to descend upon the Midwest next week but the race also was forecasting a tremendously small car count no doubt prompting the postponement. There are a lot of races this summer and racers are starting to be selective, something that manifest itself with the Southern Super Series cancelation of Carteret County Speedway on Saturday night as well.

The challenge racers face in entering all these races, or even picking and choosing, was best articulated by Bubba Pollard earlier in the month during Money in the Bank at Berlin Raceway.

“It’s tough though because next week we’re supposed to go to (ASA) Milwaukee and we want to support Tim (Bryant’s) two (Southern Super Series) races (in North Carolina) and then go back to Missouri,” Pollard said. “It’s impossible unless you do this full-time.

“We’ve been lucky to have a family business that lets us race a lot this year but how are you supposed to do this as a working guy? How is a regular guy supposed to do it so sometimes you have to pick and choose your battles.”

Call it weather, which North Carolina did have a lot of rain from Tuesday to Friday, or the expected car counts but these cancellations at least alleviate some of those concerns.
