Fresh off another appearance in the ValleyStar Credit Union 300, Timothy Peters is already planning to make his debut in another short track crown jewel.

Two-time ValleyStar Credit Union 300 winner Timothy Peters is putting together a program to enter the Snowball Derby this December. The longtime NASCAR competitor is also the general manager of the Nelson Motorsports Late Model Stock team with Barry Nelson and they recently purchased a Super Late Model from FURY Race Cars in the hopes of making the trip south to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida by the end of the season.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” Peters said pensively at Martinsville. “Our car is about three-quarters finished. I have to talk to (Jeff) Fultz about how to go about it and I don’t want to over-promise and under-deliver, but there is a lot of thought and very serious talks about going.”

While Peters was hesitant to say it’s a done deal, his business partner was all-in, assuming his driver didn’t have a conflict that weekend.

“We’ll have to get some testing in,” Nelson said. “We need to get with Tony Eury and Jeff Fultz and make sure we’re set. But we’re going, probably. We’re going unless something crazy happens. Timothy will be driving the car and I’ve already asked our guys if they want to go and they’re super excited.”

Peters cut his teeth driving Late Model Stocks in the Carolinas and Virginias before spending 15 years in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He has 10 wins at that level and raced for a championship in his final full-time season.

Peters said that the chances of them racing in the Derby goes up when Nelson puts his mind to it.

“One thing I can say about Barry, is that when he makes up his mind, we do it and we do it right,” Peters said. “Obviously, it’s a different world for us. It’s all about people and we have the right people. Same principles and concepts, so we just have to do our homework.”

Peters finished 24th at Martinsville on Saturday night after experiencing a variety of misfortunes. He was the veteran leader of a five-car Nelson effort that also included Todd Gilliland, Matt Bowling, Bobby McCarty and Brandon Pierce.

Nelson is a car dealership owner based near Martinsville, Virginia.
