Nasse Hopes to Return to Victory Lane with Anthony Campi Racing

The two Florida short track juggernauts had much to gain by teaming up

In a weekend that has already seen some familiar faces in new cars, Stephen Nasse has returned to pilot the no. 51 machine for Anthony Campi Racing at Five Flags Speedway.

Nasse first attempted to race with ACR back in July for night 2 of the Pepperjack Kennels Twin 100s. Since that race ended up being halted by Mother Nature, Nasse will strap in behind the wheel of the ACR car once more for this makeup date.

Nasse’s goal with this new enterprise is simple: he wants to do anything he can to win more races.

“We’ve been talking about doing it for a long time,” Nasse told Short Track SCENE. “Within the last month or two, we’ve kinda been able to put it together.”

When asked whether this deal was a one-off thing or a prolonged effort, Nasse told us, “We’ll just try to see how it goes. It could be (a one-off deal), but it could be more than that. We’ll see how we run and go from there.”

Nasse’s crew chief woes have been a prolonged occurrence all year, and he stated that the issue is still just as much of a hindrance.

“I still don’t really have a crew chief for my own stuff. I always want to have the best chance to win, and I thought this would be my best chance. If it goes well, there could be more, but we’re just gonna have to go race by race.”

With the challenges of having a new driver behind the wheel, team owner Anthony Campi is mainly focused on establishing a good relationship with Nasse for their first race together.

“I think our biggest thing is not beating ourselves, working on communication, and just trying to gel,” said Campi. “There’s been a lot of talks about all the big races coming up. We’re just trying to mesh our schedules with what we already have set up.”

As we shall see this weekend, if this relationship works out for both driver and team, there seems to be a good chance that Nasse and ACR will combine their efforts for more events throughout the remainder of 2023.
