Jake Finch hopes World Crown reaches crown jewel status

Daniel Vining

Jake Finch is excited for the World Crown 300 at Cordele Motor Speedway and is hoping to see it become one of the major Crown Jewel Super Late Model races.

Finch won the Five Flags Speedway Alan Turner Pro Late Model Series less than a month ago and is hoping to carry that momentum to Cordele to add another big win to his resume. He is also hoping to do it in front of a large crowd.

“I think [the World Crown 300 being a] crown jewel is cool,” Finish said. “I really like the Snowball [Derby], the All American 400, the Winchester 400, [and now] the World Crown 300. I think it’s really cool.”

Finch hopes to see the teams and fans show up for the weekend and expects a good race.

“I’ve seen as I’ve started racing Supers, the car count fall,” Finch said. “I don’t know what we need to do about that. I have my opinions but it’s different for everybody. I really love all the crown jewels but I want to continue to see them get built up.

“When I go run ARCA or go run anything else and I come back here; we have good races. I think they’re really good races. There’s a lot of really good race car drivers. The stands don’t show it, besides the Snowball.”

He hopes to see fans turn out like they did for the CARS Tour race earlier this year when Dale Earnhardt Jr. raced, and see Super Late Model racing grow and gain more fans as a whole.

“You go to a dirt race and everyone knows [Jonathan] Davenport, David Gravel, Kyle Larson,” Finch said. “People know them. People are amped up about it, almost like Cup racing. You come to Super Late Model racing and people know Bubba [Pollard] and [Stephen] Nasse but other than that- I don’t know. I feel like our presence isn’t there.

“I want to get that up. The World Crown, Snowball, all these events we have, should be what they are. I want to do anything I can to make it [big] because I think they’re good races. I know we’re not Dale Jr., but Cordele, when they had that CARS Tour race was slammed. So they’re out there and able to come, I just wonder what we need to do to be able to get them to come.”

The World Crown 300 is on Saturday, October 25th and will be streamed on Racing America.
