Impending winter storm postpones Speedfest

Daniel Vining

Track Enterprises, the Southern Super Series and Cordele Motor Speedway have made the decision to postpone this weekend’s annual Speedfest.

The decision was made with the fact that numerous teams, fans and industry personnel would have to travel to and from the Tennessee Valley and Mid-Atlantic, which are both bracing for a generational winter weather event.

For example, the Nashville area racers would have to travel back in what is expected to be a foot of snow through Sunday. The Carolinas and Virginias will experience multiple inches of snow and ice, with forecasters starting to reach a consensus about the track and potential of a low pressure system from the Gulf of Mexico meeting arctic air from the north.

“This was a very tough call,” said promoter Bob Sargent in a press release. “SpeedFest has traditionally been a great event for us, and with the level of talent that was entered—including full-time NASCAR drivers from the Cup Series down to the Truck Series, along with some of the best ASA Super Late Model and Pro Late Model competitors—we were extremely excited to get on track. We are working diligently to finalize a new date and will have more information very soon.”

To this point, a new date will be announced at a later, as will information for competitors and fans.
