It didn’t take long for Erik Jones to find himself back behind the wheel of a Super Late Model.
The reigning Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year has filed an entry to compete at CRA Speedfest on January 27-28 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia. This will be the fourth time the Joe Gibbs Racing youngster has turned laps at the aged .375-mile short track. He also raced the event back in 2012 and 2013, finishing 26th and 15 respectively.
Jones will compete in the 200-lap showdown with KBR Performance, the same team he won the 2017 Battle at Berlin 251 with. He has made several starts in the No. 20 operated by Mike Bursley and Zach Dunston, including the 2017 edition of Speedfest.
Jones captured the pole for the race last season and finished second to Harrison Burton.

“SpeedFest has been that race on my list that I’ve always wanted to win, but just haven’t been able to put it all together,” Jones said in a press release. “Last year we sat on the pole, but weren’t able to capitalize and ended up finishing second. The competition is always top notch at this event and I’m hoping this year we are the ones hoisting up that trophy in Victory Lane.”
CRA SpeedFest 2018 will consist of a $10,000-to-win 200-lap ARCA/CRA Super Series super late model non-point event and a $5,000-to-win 125-lap JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour pro late model non-point event. The remainder of the entry list will be revealed as the event approaches.
