Ty Majeski Dominates Milwaukee Mile, Extends ASA Lead

It’s now officially the halfway point of the ASA STARS national Super Late Model season and Ty Majeski has made a statement that the championship runs through him after winning the Father’s Day 200 at the Milwaukee Mile.

Not only did he win the race, he scored maximum points by clean sweeping all three stages from the pole, leading a lap and the most laps, good for a 100-point afternoon. He led all but a handful of laps en route to his second victory of the season in addition to the Joe Shear Classic at Madison back in spring.

In short, there was nothing the field had for Majeski, car builder Toby Nuttleman and team owner Brad Mannstedt on Sunday afternoon in West Allis, Wisconsin.

“We just had a lot of speed, all weekend, and here that’s super important,” Majeski said. “We’ve had speed here in the past and wore out tires. This week, we took a different approach to keep rear grip in it and keep the speed in it.

“I think we accomplished that.”

Yeah, no kidding.

“Huge thanks to Dewaine McGunegill,” Majeski said of his engine builder. “This is a fresh sealed engine. Ford power. It was phenomenal today.”

The only chance someone else had to beat the No. 91 was on strategy and that option was taken by Casey Roderick and Anthony Campi Racing, who is also the closest pursuer to Majeski in the standings. Roderick stayed out to get clean air after the first stage break but was unable to hold Majeski off on the second restart of the stage.

They went on to finish third and Roderick wonders if he led his team down a wrong path.

“Our balance was a lot better out front,” Roderick said. “It’s a lot of fun here, but the air does mess with you and it’s really hard to pass because of it. You lose the nose when you get close enough to pass and it kills your momentum after the corner.

“I felt like we were a little loose before our first stop, and I wanted to get it tightened up a little bit, and then we were just all the more tighter in traffic, so I probably made the wrong call there.”

That made it easier for Cole Butcher to pick off Roderick for second by the end of the race, his best finish of the ASA national season.

“Ty was in a world of his own and we were pretty much racing for second from the time we unloaded,” Butcher said.

The only significant incident of the day occurred on Lap 60 when Justin Mondeik spun off the nose of Sean Hingorani and slammed head first into the inside retaining Jersey Barrier. It destroyed the car but the driver was able to walk away.

Meanwhile, with his win, Majeski extended his points lead over Roderick from four points to 23.
