ASA Penalizes Bubba Pollard and Boris Jurkovic

ASA has levied penalties against Boris Jurkovic and Bubba Pollard for actions taken during and after the ASA STARS National Series Sunshine State 200 on Saturday night at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola.

As a result of a post-race altercation with race winner Casey Roderick in the technical inspection area, Bubba Pollard has lost 29 driver and owner points, those earned during the race, in addition to the forfeiture of his race earnings and a $3000 fine. Additionally, he has been placed on probation for all ASA (National, Southern Super Series, Midwest Tour and CRA) sanctioned events for the remainder of the calendar year.

Boris Jurkovic has been penalized the 15 points he earned during the race, the forfeiture of his race earnings, a $750 fine and an additional penalty of $145 to replace series equipment. He has also been placed on probation for all ASA Sanctioned events the remainder of the calendar year.

Pollard confronted Roderick during post-race technical inspection over the decisive incident between them late in the race.

Pollard spun off contact from Roderick on the frontstretch after the caution had come out for an incident behind them involving Dakota Stroup and Preston Peltier. Several drivers, including Jake Finch and Derek Kraus, piled into Pollard and damaged all three cars to the point they could not continue.

Roderick was not penalized, according to race director Nicholas Rogers, because the contact occurred after the caution. The sanctioning body also says Pollard would have retained the lead after the spin had he been able to continue.

Jurkovic crashed due to contact from Billy VanMeter. During the ensuing caution, Jurkovic searched the back of a safety truck until he found a fire suppressant, running down the banking as VanMeter passed under caution and attempted to throw it inside his window, the container bouncing off the car back onto the racing surface.
