Trey Craig claims second CRA JEGS Tour win at Nashville after Josh Berry DQ

Josh Berry in the Fathead Racing Development No. 21 crossed the finish line first in the Battle on Broadway 150 but a post-race disqualification led to Trey Craig being declared the winner.

This marks back-to-back wins in the CRA JEGS Tour Pro Late Model Series and Southern Pro Series sanctioned event at Nashville Fairgrounds for Craig.

Craig had spent the entirety of the race around the top five but charged to second after the tire break. He was not able to catch Berry, and in real time, just chalked it up to running out of time against a super-efficient Cup Series driver.

“It was hard to catch him up,” said Craig after the race. “You know, we had to pass those four or five cars there. He was on rails, you know? He gets paid big money to do this stuff. He’s a hell of a wheelman, so he’s a tough one to catch. You know, finishing second to a Cup Series driver’s not too bad.”

The following is a statement from Jamie Yelton, owner of Fathead Racing and Development, who owned the car Berry drove.

“Sometimes things don’t go your way, and last night was one of them,” Yelton said. “The team put together a bad fast car and our driver showed up! After starting 5th, we took the lead on lap-82 and didn’t look back, winning the ‘Battle of Broadway 150’ by 2.651 over second place.

“After being tore down in tech, our night ended with our FHR team being disqualified for 0.01 left side weight.”

Race details from the track issued press release:

“The race featured early domination by Sutton, who was also fastest in practice and drew the pole position. He and teammate Kitzmiller opened a sizable advantage before the race’s first caution on lap 49 for a spin by Tucker Wingo. On the restart, Berry surged to second and eventually took the lead on lap 82 before building a gap during a long green-flag run. That run came to a halt on lap 106 following an incident involving Aidan Potter and Stacey Crain, which brought the field to pit road for their two-tire allotment.

“Berry again led the final restart on lap 115, pulling away while battles raged behind him. However, the post-race inspection ruled out his effort, handing the win to Craig in a dramatic turn of events.”
