A pair of disqualifications have resulted in Kody Swanson inheriting a 500 Sprint Car Tour victory from April 14 at Anderson Speedway in Indiana.
Following the results of a lab test, tire samples taken from flagged winner Dakota Armstrong and third place finisher Caleb Armstrong came back showing a substance not consistent with Hoosier Tire standards.
The entire podium had tire samples sent to a lab for review. As a result, Swanson is now the winner and the Armstrongs were disqualified.
“Penalties in racing are something I do not like to deal with, but completely understand that sometimes they are a necessary evil of our sport,” stated Rick Dawson, Managing Partner of the 500 Sprint Car Tour after announcing the decision.
“I instructed Jared (Owen) and Justin (Carey) to take every action on our side to ensure the results were correct. The samples were sent to the lab at IUPUI who returned the same results. This takes time to accomplish, hence the timing of the announcement. I want to believe that whatever was on the tires was purely unintentional, but the rule states that no substance can be introduced to a tire that is raced. The team has stated they have no idea where the substance came from and it was never their intention to alter the tires.”
Short Track Scene asked if the results of the Little 500 were in doubt given that that Caleb and Dakoda finished first and second and the series said “They are not in doubt. The case is closed.”
