Gary Klutt will lead a record 31 cars to the green flag in the NASCAR Canada Series season opener on Sunday at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.
Klutt took his family owned car to a lap time of 1:22.030, enough to defeat practice pacesetter Kevin Lacroix by 0.032 and also ahead of tour mainstays Marc-Antoine Camirand, Andrew Ranger and LP Dumoulin.
“It was a humid morning and the track started out a little bit greasy but there wasn’t much sunshine,” Klutt said. “Then came the sunshine and that probably hurt everyone a little bit but at the same time, the track was getting rubbered in. Overall, some greasy laps there.”
Canada Series races at Mosport always come down to a last lap slugfest and Klutt is expecting nothing less on Sunday.
What will it take to win?
“A really clean race, staying up front and having a good balance for sure,” he said. “It’s all going to come down to the end, so who knows, because these races get wild at the end. A little bit of luck helps.”
