Christopher Bell secures NASCAR Pinty’s Series ride at Mosport

Toronto Star

Camping World Truck Series regular Christopher Bell will make his debut in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series for the season opener on May 20-21 at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.

Bell will drive the No. 22 fielded by Scott Steckly’s 22 Racing Team. The race will serve as a test session of sorts for Bell, a dirt open-wheeler turned stock car prospect, whom will return for the Truck Series’ annual stop at Mosport in September.

“We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to provide a car for a driver of the caliber of Christopher Bell,” Steckly said. “I have no doubt he will be battling for the win when the checkered flag falls on lap 51 of the Can Am 200.”

Steckly won the champion in 2015 but has had to scale back his own driving career due to a lack of funding. As a result, the 45-year-old has been leasing his powerful equipment out to other paying drivers.

Bell will be arriving at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Saturday morning after competing in the Camping World Truck series fifth event of the year on Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Pinty’s Series is a Late Model tour comprising of 13 road course and short track events across Canada from May 21st to September 16.

Matt Weaver is the owner and founder of Short Track Scene. Weaver grew up in the sport, having raced himself before becoming a reporter in college at the University of South Alabama. He also has extensive experience covering NASCAR, IndyCar and Dirt Sprint Cars.
