Ryan Glenski outdueled Matt Cox over 75 laps and but especially over the final several laps to win a classic Late Model Stock duel on Saturday night at Florene Motor Speedway.
Both drivers raced side by side for the final five laps with only the slightest of contact, if any at all before the final lap, with Glenski emerging victorious through some high side momentum.
“What a hard fought victory,” Glenksi said in Victory Lane. “A lot of cautions tonight and it seemed like every time we would get the lead, a caution would come out so I’m just glad I could run Matt really clean and put on a good show. I can’t thank Justin Carroll Speedshop enough and everyone who makes this possible.
“Running that high side, carried really good speeed. We really weren’t saving anything all race. It was just that hooked up. That was a good one.”
Glenski won a race last year at Florence but it was a far cry from his five win season at Greenville Pickens the season before that.
“This is right up there and I couldn’t do it without these people standing right here with me,” Glenski said.

Cox took the defeat in stride, which was possibly made tougher to do given that he’s now finished second every regular season race this spring to two different drivers in three different cars.
“That was good racing right there,” Cox said. “We just got too tight longer in the run. We tried to dig a little deeper when he got there. I thought we were better than him off 4 a couple of laps before that so I sent it in deeper and it wheel hopped on me. Had to chase it. I got to thank these guys … everything that makes this thing come to life. It was a good show tonight.”
While not on the podium, Icebreaker winner Doug Barnes felt like he had another race winning car but was involved in two different incidents on Saturday night.
First, most notably, came when he moved Jamie Weatherford for third but was then sent around by in Turns 3 and 4 in retaliation.
Weatherford was sent to the rear for the contact and he parked his car behind the wall instead.
Sums it up pretty good. Saved our tires really well and after a good restart with 15 to go I moved the 94 and he just cleaned me out going into 3. We plowed into a checkup on the next restart and knocked the nose off of it. We STILL came back to finish 4th somehow. No quit in us. https://t.co/MH8fa5OBb5

Meanwhile, the overall race was caution filled marred by numerous spins and incidents. Of note, Lanie Buice finished third for her third consecutive podium at Florence this season.
