An unfavorable weather forecast shortened Saturday’s on-track activities at Hickory Motor Speedway, with Josh Kossek scoring a victory in the lone 25-lap feature.
Although Kossek led wire-to-wire, he faced an intense challenge from Gage Painter in the closing laps. Kossek managed to withstand Painter’s late charge to take home the checkered flag.
“We did about ten laps in the only practice we got this morning,” Kossek said. “I knew the car handled and fired off really good but it was really uneasy through the center. [Gage] got into me in [Turns] 3 and 4 and I tired to race him as hard as I could but I got away with it.”
The victory was Kossek’s second on the season at Hickory, as his first took place during the season-opener back on March 6 after he held off Landon Huffman and Ryan Millington.
With Kossek being the only driver to participate in every single Late Model event at Hickory this year, he enters the rest of the season in control of his opportunity to add his name to the long list of track champions.
A second 25-lap feature had been planned to wrap up the evening until rain washed out that race along with the planned Street Stock and Four-Cylinder features.
