CONCORD, NC :: Josh Berry dominated in the Late Model Stock Car portion of Saturday night’s CARS Tour Lead 2 Real Estate 200 at Concord Speedway, scoring his third win of 2016 and the sixth victory of his career.

Myatt Snider took the lead from Berry on the initial start but Berry retook the spot by the fourth lap and checked out.  A caution with 10 laps to go gave Justin Carroll — who spent much of the race in second — and Myatt Snider a shot but Berry pulled away and claimed the trophy.

“It was just a good race car,” Berry said after the race. “I’m just really proud of my team. They put a lot of work into this thing and it just really settled in for long runs.”

Fortunately for him, that’s what kind of race he endured with the only caution coming on Lap 90 when Layne Riggs spun after falling off the pace.  Riggs had been running inside the top-five for much of the race before fading.

After the restart, Justin Carroll, who had been in second for most of the race, faded to a fifth place finish.  Meanwhile, Deac McCaskill raced his way up to a fourth place finish, extending his points lead on Tommy Lemons, Jr. who finished eighth.

Berry had missed the previous race at Orange County due to a NASCAR Xfinity Series commitment which dropped him from second in the standings to third and 39 points out. He plans to race the final three events but knows the championship is probably a long shot.

“Realistically, we would need a lot of help,” Berry said. “You’re going to need several bad things to happen to all of those guys and that’s just unlikely. And they’re too good.”
