Carteret County Speedway Announces 2021 Race Dates

Eric Creel | Carteret County Speedway

Carteret County Speedway released its 2021 race dates on Thursday afternoon, composing a 19-race season that will start in April and run through December.

The 2021 season at Carteret County Speedway, which is located just a few miles from the popular vacation destination at Emerald Isle, will begin on Saturday, April 3rd.  The traditional Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend races, which are held on Sunday nights, remain on the schedule in 2021.

While the track is still working on which divisions will race and when, two races have already been announced.  The Carolina Pro Late Model Series, and its upstart Carolina Crate Modified Series, will run at Carteret County on June 19th, effectively replacing the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour on the schedule after that series made the decision not to return to run at the Eastern North Carolina track in 2021.  The SMART Modified series will run on Sunday, September 5th, headlining the Bobby Watson Memorial Celebration.

“We are looking forward to an exciting 2021 season and looking forward to having our great fans back in the stands, our drivers back at the track, and showcasing all of our sponsors and partners,” Carteret County Speedway track owner Bob Lowery said.  “We have a lot of exciting races coming up, such as the SMART Modified Tour and the Carolina Pro Late Model Series, and we’ll have other events at the track throughout the year.”

The 2021 season comes on the heels of a tumultuous 2020 season at Carteret County Speedway, which started in June due to the coronavirus pandemic and was ultimately shortened as a result of restrictions implemented by the State of North Carolina to combat the spread of COVID-19.  The track had raced in the summer months before eventually drawing the ire of the state’s health department.  Carteret County Speedway was eventually allowed to reopen in November in strict compliance with state regulations – running the Carolina Mini-Stock Nationals without fans in the grandstands.

“Last year was extremely difficult and we are thankful to all our racers, fans, and sponsors who stuck with us through all the difficulties,” Lowery said.  “We are hopeful to get a full season of racing in this year with more and more people getting vaccinated, and we hope every track in this country is able to race and be successful this year.”
