William Byron set for CARS Tour LMSC debut at Caraway

It’s a homecoming of sorts

William Byron spent one of his formative development seasons behind the wheel of a JR Motorsports Late Model Stock and will be reunited with that program in the CARS Tour race on Wednesday, July 3 at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina.

The reigning Daytona 500 winner will drive a second car out of the stable to pair alongside two-time champion Carson Kvapil, mimicking what the team did with Kyle Larson in this same race this year. The entry will be numbered 24 and will be run with Hendrick Cars sponsorship.

The Charlotte native is a CARS Tour winner in the Super Late Model division, defeating Chase Elliott head-to-head in the 2015 event at Hickory Motor Speedway, but has never raced in the premier Late Model Stock division.

Also, after spending two seasons back in Super Late Models with Donnie Wilson Motorsports and Anthony Campi Racing, Byron has scaled back his short track racing in 2024, meaning this is the first start of any kind this year.

Byron raced at Hickory in 2014 with JRM before returning to the organization in 2017, where he won the Xfinity Series championship.
