Bobby McCarty pays tribute to Peters, Richmond and Triplett for Throwback 276

For his Throwback 276 paint scheme, CARS Tour Late Model Stock championship leader Bobby McCarty is giving back to the Nelson Motorsports family.

Behind the scenes at Nelson is team manager Timothy Peters and consultants Marcus Richmond and David Triplett. While Peters and Richmond are most known for their NASCAR success, they and Triplett are Late Model Stock aces. The three Nelson Motorsports leaders, combined for over 30 plus victories, three track championships and a 2005 Martinsville 300 win during their time together with the Mac and Steven Bailey owned team, especially the Bailey’s blue scheme used from 2002-2005.

“I decided to do the Bailey’s throwback scheme at Hickory because Timothy, David Triplett, and Marcus Richmond were all a part of that team, and they are huge part of this one,” McCarty said. “If it wasn’t for those guys, I don’t think I would be the racer I am today and especially this season.”

McCarty won the spring Hickory race on May 5, but concedes this one would be even more special.

“I really hope we run as well as race as we did in May,” he added. “If we do, there will be a lot of short track history in Victory Lane on Saturday night.”

Peters was honored to see his old car back in the stable.

“I’m honored that Bobby wants to race a car that I had a lot of success with early in my career, as well as some of my best friends in this sport and life,” Peters said. “David, Marcus and I had a lot of success and a lot of fun over the years with this same scheme.

“Mac and Steven Bailey did a lot for us, and the sport of short track racing, for that I’m forever grateful. Still to this day, it’s pretty awesome to see our involvement with the sport and still be all working together to make it better. Barry Nelson is doing just the same as the Bailey’s did during my time period, it takes people like that in this sport to make it successful.”

In addition to Hut Strickin, who will be honored by his son Taylor with a throwback scheme, Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Ron Hornaday Jr., Randy LaJoie and Robert Pressley will be on-hand to sign autographs and take part in a Q&A session before the race.

As is the case with all CARS Tour races, the Throwback 276 can be viewed live with a CARSTour.TV subscription package. A condensed version of the race will also air on MAVTV on September 6 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
