Jimmy Mooring, CARS Tour championship winning car owner, has died at age of 80.
Mooring was most recently the car owner for Jared Fryar, with their biggest accomplishment together being winning the CARS Late Model Stock Tour championship in 2020. He has also owned cars driven by Stacy Puryear, Sarah Cornett-Ching and Landon Huffman.
“We are saddened by the passing of our car owner, Jimmy Mooring,” Fryar said in a post on social media.
“Jimmy was like an extended part of our family. We were able to experience a lot of success in late model stock racing with Jimmy for 7 years. We were able to win some big races & the 2020 CARS Tour championship with Jimmy. Our thoughts & prayers are with the Mooring Family. We will miss him. RIP”
AK Performance, who worked with Fryar and Mooring, also shared their thoughts and prayers to Mooring’s family.
“Deeply saddened to hear about Jimmy Moorings passing,” the team said in a social media post.
“We have so many great memories of Jimmy over the last 3 years and could never thank him enough for taking a chance on us 3 years ago. Forever grateful that our paths crossed and thankful for the opportunity that got us where we are today.”
Mooring was raised in a farming family before he chased his passion of cars and joined the racing world. When not a the track, his favorite hobby was gardening and tending to whatever he was growing at the time. He was respected and loved by members of the garage and the community, and will be deeply missed.
