UARA releases apology to Briggs following penalty from Sportsman race at Citrus

The UARA released an apology earlier this afternoon regarding a penalty Adam Briggs became the unfortunate recipient of in the latter half of the Sportsman invasion at Citrus County Speedway.

Briggs had been a consistent threat to win against the two dominant cars of Daniel Webster and Tim Sozio, keeping himself in the top five for the vast majority of last Saturday night’s 75-lap race. After a single-car spin from Kipp McVey, Webster received a penalty for jumping the restart with only 21 laps remaining. Briggs profited from this penalty, and filled the vacancy left by Webster.

Briggs was elevated from third to first, adjacent to Sozio for a re-attempt of the previous restart, only to be awarded a penalty of his own, joining Webster at the rear of the competition. Briggs mitigated the harm done by the penalty with a ninth-place finish, yet was still irritated along with his team in a ruling they perceived as unfair.

Two days after the results from Citrus County, the UARA released the following statement via Facebook.

Officials stated they “made a mistake” after in-car camera footage directly contradicted the decision to penalize Briggs, meanwhile all other penalties enforced were appropriate to those in violation of the UARA rulebook. Briggs maintains fifth in the standings, 50 points behind Tim Sozio, with Mobile International Speedway as the next track to host the UARA Sportsman Series in 2026.
