ABC Committee announces phased rulebook and inspection updates

The Approved Body Configuration (ABC) Committee has issued a series of administrative and technical updates to the ABC Rulebook. These changes will take effect over the next several months.

According to ABC Technical Bulletin, the updates impact several key body areas, including spoilers, door vent windows, cowl panels, and fenders. The current ABC Rulebook has already been updated to note each revision alongside its respective effective date.

Administrative

The committee announced three changes to its roster of series representatives on page 6 of the rulebook. Chris Wiess of Five Star Race Car Bodies will replace Corey Schultz.

Additionally, Alex Nagy has been added to represent the APC Series, and Rudy Hernandez has joined to represent the ASA Series.

The technical rule changes will roll out in three phases:

August 17, 2026
Spoiler – Pages 18 & 33

  • Spoiler gap can be taped/closed off with insert after technical inspection.

Door Vent Windows – Pages 19 & 34

  • Maximum deflection of 1” Outward. Inward deflection is not allowed.
  • This requirement has also been added to both inspection Checklists.

Cowl Panel – Page 13

  • The cowl air insert must be supplied by an ABC Approved Manufacturer.
  • Five Star Race Car Bodies: Part No. 661-5100A-X
  • AR Bodies: Part No. ABC 10282X

Fenders – Page 27

  • The rear of the fender wheel opening may be trimmed for tire clearance, 1/2” of the roll needs to be maintained inward into the wheel opening.

The ABC Committee is a governing body in North American asphalt short track racing established in 2002 that standardizes rules for late model race cars. It works alongside leading body manufacturers and representatives from various sanctioning bodies across the country.
