Trevor Ward slides to victory at South Boston

Buddy Pulley

Saturday’s 125 lap Late Model Stock feature marked the longest race of the year at South Boston outside of the annual South Boston 200, and it was led flag to flag by Trevor Ward in a dominant performance.

Ward had yet to finish outside a podium position in 2026, and continued that streak leading all 125 laps from the pole Saturday afternoon. Ward showed a flare for the dramatic as he crossed the line, spinning and sliding backwards to the finish after a failed attempt at a power slide to the line. Ward backed the rear of the car into the wall as he collected his first win of the season at South Boston

“I was a little worried about it being a day race” said Ward “the ole car was really good today and there at the end of the race I had to run out of talent, knocked it out of gear and couldn’t drive out of it. Unfortunately that’s what you get when you try to show off but probably gonna see if we can make the next race but I know I got a lot of busy obligations and we can hopefully come back in here and race and be competitive”

Ward captured the victory from the pole, becoming the first driver to win from the pole at South Boston in 2026.

His path to victory wasn’t quite as easy as it seemed. With just under 25 laps to go Carson Brown got in the back of Andrew Grady off of Turn 4. The battle continued into Turn 3 where the two collided, sending Brown around.

“He couldn’t get a run on me” said Grady “he couldn’t get around me and he started throwing me the bumper and he got real aggressive with it. I crossed him over, got back underneath of him, we’re going to three and four and he turned down on me and crowded me. – you gotta leave something to work with here. The rule is you leave a guy a lane and not an inch more, I’m good with that but when you take away what I’m working with and you put me in a position and you door me and you spin me, that’s not on me.”

Landon Pembelton, a distant 2nd, could only be a spectator to Ward’s slide off of Turn 4. Peyton Sellers comes home 3rd.
