Caden Kvapil is looking to repeat what his brother Carson did last year, winning a grandfather clock in the JR Motorsports No. 8 Late Model Stock.
Defending ValleyStar Credit Union winner Carson Kvapil is racing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, so his younger brother Caden has taken over driving duties in the No. 8 JRM Late Model part-time this year. He has made five starts in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour this year. Now he prepares to make his Martinsville debut.
“A lot of pressure is on me it seems like,” Caden said. “I feel confident that we’ve brought a good car. We’ve brought pretty much the same setup Carson won with last year, so I expect to have a really good car. It’s up to me to get up to speed and get us a good setup going into the race.
“I’m really looking forward to it. Big race obviously. First time here. It’s going to be a little challenging at first but I think I’ll get up to speed really quick and have a good shot at it tomorrow.”
Caden is leaning on his team and his brother to get as much information to be as prepared as possible ahead of getting on track.
“[I’ve] definitely [been leaning Carson] a lot,” Caden said. “He’s ran here the last three years. In the CARS Tour he’s ran pretty much every track that I’ve raced at. Being able to lean on him and ask him any questions I have, I know he’ll have the answer for me.
“He’s really experienced at all these tracks, especially here. He knows how to get around this place. I’ve been asking him a bunch of questions, watching some videos, and getting as prepared as I can for this big race.”
Caden has all the reasons to win in his Martinsville debut, and if does it would without a doubt be the biggest win of his career.
“It would definitely be the biggest win I’ve got for sure,” Caden said. “Obviously walking away with a grandfather clock would be really cool. Everyone wants to come here and win. We’re here to compete for the win. I know I’ll have a good car behind me so it’s up to me to keep myself clean and in a good position by the end of the race.”
Practice for the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 is Friday, September 26 at 3 p.m. and qualifying is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the four 25-lap qualifying races will begin at 3 p.m. and the 200-lap main event is set to start at 7 p.m.
