Two drivers.
Six points.
The CARS Tour Pro Late Model championship, full of so many twists and turns, will come down to Spencer Davis leading Kaden Honeycutt by six points once the green flag drops at North Wilkesboro Speedway on Saturday night.
There was a version of this story that didn’t even include Honeycutt making it to the end of the season. He started the campaign behind the wheel of the No. 51 for Mavrick Page Motorsport but parted ways in August and moved to the No. 47 for Bryson Lopez Racing.
“It’s definitely been a little bit tough,” said Honeycutt. “The opportunity I’ve got to
be in the position I’m in this year, even though it’s not the points lead right now, I still can’t thank [Bryson Lopez Racing] enough for the opportunity they gave me to finish out the season.
“It’s my first time Pro Late Model racing and we can only learn and get better from it. I am extremely excited for tomorrow. I think we’ll have a very good chance, and no matter how tomorrow goes, I want to thank Atlanta Paving and Construction, TMC, Cadillac Ranch, Simpson Trucking, for the opportunity to come and finish out the season strong and see if we can win it but if we don’t, it’s still a heck of an effort.”
Davis is a short track lifer, who has spent over a decade racing a variety of cars across the East Coast. He tried his hands at both NASCAR’s Truck Series and Modified Tour in recent years but found a home back in Pro Late Models and the CARS Tour after never really anticipating a championship run.
“It’s real awesome to rebound after these last few years of Truck racing and back of the pack stuff, to come back to what I did for all these years growing
up,” Davis said. “Having our family team come out here and show the consistency and dominance we have [it helps] not only for us but for the guys at FURY Race Cars.
“I feel like it gives everyone an extra pep in their step with this new chassis, [especially] when it’s all funded out of your pocket and with the help of good friends.”
After spending a whole season battling Honeycutt on track and in the points standings, Davis does not see any changes in how he approaches the race, even with the higher stakes.
“Me and Kaden [have had] a lot of respect all year with each other. Hope that stays the same [and] we don’t have any dirty hands. At the end of the day I know we’ve done the right thing all year and it’s gotten us to this point, [so] I’m not going to change my morals for one race.
“We’re going to go out, do the right thing, and hopefully hoist the CARS Tour Pro Late Model championship trophy.”
