Hometown favorite Andrew Krause posts top speed at Wall Stadium

There is nothing quite like the home track advantage.

Andrew Krause, a weekly competitor in the Modified class at Wall Stadium Speedway, paced the only NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice session Saturday in advance of the Jersey Shore 150.

With a time of 12.304 seconds (mph), Krause took the No. 24 Supreme Manufacturing Chevrolet to the top of the speed charts in the final half of the 90-minute practice session. With his experience at the high-banked, third-mile oval, Krause is certainly going to be a favorite to score his first career Whelen Modified Tour win.

In the final minutes, Timmy Solomito turned a quick lap that put him second on the speed charts. Solomito drove the No. 16 RB Enterprises Chevrolet to a time of 12.316 seconds (mph). Through the first four races, the nine-time Whelen Modified Tour winner has yet to score a top five finish — but does have two ninth-place efforts under his belt.

Dave Sapienza, a former winner in Wall Stadium’s ‘Turkey Derby’ Modified race, was third in practice. Defending series champion Justin Bonsignore and Ron Silk rounded out the top five.

Doug Coby was sixth, followed by Jimmy Blewett, Eric Goodale, Patrick Emerling and Tommy Catalano. Blewett is another driver who holds the home track advantage, as the Howell, New Jersey, driver has championships at Wall, and was victorious in the most recent series stop at the oval in 2007.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track at 6:20 p.m. on Saturday for qualifying prior to the Jersey Shore 150. The fifth race of the season is scheduled to take the green flag at 8:30 p.m., and will air live on FansChoice.TV.
