One of the best examples of regional cooperation between two Super Late Model tours took place last summer in Anderson, South Carolina — a new tradition that is set to continue Saturday night at Anderson Motor Speedway.
The Border War will see the full-time regulars for the Southern Super Series mix it up with their counterparts in the CARS Tour Super Late Model division.
For the CARS Tour, this is the first time their two different divisions have competed on the same day at two different venues. The Late Model Stock division will race at the same time at Ace Speedway in Elon, North Carolina while the Supers compete at Anderson.
However, this is the third co-sanctioned race of the year as the North-South Showdown at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville and the U.S. Short Track Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway were also promoted between CARS, the Southern Super Series and the CRA Super Series.
CARS Tour director Chris Ragle will be overseeing his own Late Model stock division at Ace while the Southern Super Series staff will manage Anderson.
Meanwhile, both tours have competitive championship battles that will continue in the Palmetto State.
Corey Heim leads Raphael Lessard by 24 points in the Southern Super Series. Meanwhile, Jared Fryer leads Lessard by eight in the CARS Tour. Anthony Cataldi is 21 back.
Headlining the list of nearly 30 drivers is Senoia, Georgia’s Bubba Pollard. Border War will be the meat in a tripleheader weekend of racing for the 2014 Southern Super Series champion, starting on Friday in Birch Run, Michigan. Then he’s leaving on a jet plane on Saturday morning to head down to Anderson. After that he’s headed back to Michigan for a race on Monday at Berlin Raceway.
Pollard won this event last season.
Another driver with a busy weekend will be Preston Peltier, who has a penchant for winning big money races. Peltier will be racing Saturday at Anderson and joining Pollard on Monday at Berlin.
Casey Roderick scored almost 20 Late Model victories in a stellar 2017 campaign. His 2018 campaign has gotten off to a solid start with a handful of victories so far. The Lawrenceville, Georgia native rounded out last year’s podium at this event with a third-place result.
