Rattler 250 Boasts Massive Purse Increase

This is the first year under SRL National Sanctioning

The 47th annual Rattler 250 will boast one of the most impressive purses in pavement short track racing this spring.

In its first year under SRL National sanctioning, the annual Super Late Model event at South Alabama Speedway in Kinston, Alabama will pay $25,000 to the winner with $12,500 going to second place and a $6,500 payout to third place.

It pays $1,600 to start from 11th to 30th.

For the sake of comparison, that $12,500 mark is about the median average for what the race has paid to win over the past decade depending on various formats and the number of entries. Alongside the Dykes family at South Alabama Speedway, series promoter Ricky Brooks has doubled that number to win the race with increases throughout the top-10.

The 18th running of The Baby Rattler will also boast a record payout for the Pro Late Model with $10,000 to the winner and $800 minimum for making the starting field, thanks to J.R.’s Lawnmower Shop and Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet.

The weekend will also feature several local classes that compete at South Alabama Speedway during its regular season.

The Rattler 250 weekend is scheduled for March 17-19 and will air on Racing America. Known entrants thus far include Ty Majeski seeking a record extending sixth win in the event, Bubba Pollard seeking his second date with the rattlesnake in Victory Lane, two-time Snowball Derby winner Augie Grill, three-time Midwest Tour champion Casey Johnson, Southern Super Series points leader Jake Finch, Southwest Tour rookie of the year Zach Telford, Blaine Rocha and Justin Mondeik.

Entries will continue to pour in as the event nears.
