If Garrett Hall’s status as a favorite for Sunday’s All That’s Metal Oxford 250 was ever in doubt, those doubts can officially be banished.
The winner of July’s Celebration of America 300 at Oxford Plains Speedway led wire to wire to win Friday night’s Pro All Stars Series-sanctioned Sunoco 150.
And with his latest victory, the Scarborough, Me. veteran secured a berth in the field for Sunday’s 52nd running of New England’s most storied Super Late Model race.
Friday night’s program was originally slated to feature some of Oxford’s weekly divisions, but PASS added the 150-lap main event a few weeks ago, with the winner earning a provisional position to use in the Oxford 250 if necessary. The evening’s card was bolstered in the last two weeks with the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour scheduling its own feature to replace an event canceled earlier in the summer.
With championship points not in the mix Friday, teams used the 150-lap tilt as a chance to test new things or different cars with little consequence on the line.
Plenty of opportunities arose for Hall to be dethroned during the feature, and nearly half of the 34-car grid failed to make the finish. Wiscasset Speedway racer Kevin Douglass was part of one of the night’s bigger incidents, when contact from Joey Doiron sent him around off turn four and into the path of Mike Hopkins. Hopkins, driving Chad Dow’s car for the night, plowed into Douglass and left both cars in shambles two days before the big race.
But no one could unseat Hall from the race lead.
Even D.J. Shaw, who dominated the last PASS Super Late Model race at Oxford as well as that weekend’s 100-lap Oxford 250 qualifier, had to settle for second.
Austin Teras wheeled his backup car to a third-place finish after starting 14th. Teras won last year’s non-points Open Competition 200, a one-off, lightened-rulebook Friday night preamble that was not repeated for 2025.
Dillon Moltz was fourth, with Trevor Sanborn ending his double-duty night with a second fifth-place finish.
Jimmy Renfrew, Jr. was sixth, with Doiron seventh in his older car. Scott Robbins, Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour feature winner Gabe Brown, and Bobby Therrien rounded out the top ten.
Hall, who has raced part-time this year and did not have a PASS points provisional to fall back on, now has a locked-in spot in Sunday’s field, if qualifying somehow goes sideways. Given PASS’ recent announcement regarding October’s PASS 400, Hall’s win may give him a secure spot in the season finale as well.
But with his car dialed in, Hall hopes that the big prize of Friday’s Sunoco 150 is a gift he doesn’t need.
