The following is a letter published by Midwestern short track promoter Gregg McKarns concerning the state of the industry in his region. It was posted from his personal Facebook page on Wednesday, September 27.
It reads as follows:
It is time we all sit down face to face in the same room and put together a blue print for the path we want to take local/regional short track racing on in the next 10-15 years. Our current form of communication is not working in the best interest of the industry. I am in the process of locating/renting a meeting room and securing group hotel room rates with hopes that the following dates will work:
Friday and Saturday November 3-4
I propose that we discuss Weekly Late Model/Big 8 Style racing on Friday evening and Super Late Model racing on Saturday morning through early afternoon. Each track with a vested interest in either or both types of racing can bring up to six people total (for each meeting), for instance, promoter, 2 tech, 2 drivers/owners and one at large. Additionally we invite a set number of engine builders and chassis builders that we feel can add to the conversation. We had success with a meeting like this some years ago with our then Big 8 tracks, I believe it will work again and set us all on the right path.
While I understand that this is time out of your lives and some money out of your pocket (hotel/travel), we need to do this for the betterment of the sport. Please let me know if you have an interest in participating and contributing your ideas to this, thank you.
