The current all-time CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour wins leader in Josh Berry is set to make only his fourth start in the series’ Super Late Model division at Jennerstown Speedway on July 3 for the American Freedom 300.
Berry, who will be piloting the No. 96 for Highlands Motorsports, is not expecting anything to come easy against a talented field of drivers all looking to bring home a $20,000 race-winning paycheck.
“There’s no question about the talent that will be in the field for this race,” Berry said. “I’ve raced against some strong fields with the CARS Late Model Stock Tour and this super field that will be at Jennerstown stacks up with one of the best. I’ll have my work cut out for me if I’m going to run up front.”
Among the drivers expected to file an entry for the American Freedom 300 include 2018 SRL Spears Southwest Tour Series champion Jeremy Doss and Derek Griffith, who won the PASS National Championship that same year.
The amount of talent in the American Freedom 300 is not a major concern for Berry, whose accomplishments in a Late Model Stock include a CARS Tour championship in 2017 as well as victories in the Myrtle Beach 400 and ValleyStar Credit Union 300.
Berry bolstered his impressive resume with a NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at Martinsville Speedway in April and is eager to continue his stellar 2021 season with a win at Jennerstown.
Despite only having a handful of Super Late Model starts, Berry is confident that the car Highlands Motorsports is providing will be strong enough to keep him at the front of the field all evening.
“Super Late Model racing is not something I have a lot of experience in but I’m excited for the challenge,” Berry said. “I’ve adapted to racing at a lot of tracks I haven’t seen this season, so I like our chances come July 3.”
Tickets for the American Freedom 300 at Jennerstown are still on sale and can be bought at www.carsracingtour.com. The event will also be streamed live at www.carstour.tv.
