Joe Bush Wins Beach Night at Berlin Raceway

Pending technical inspection, Joe Bush won on Saturday night in ‘Beach Night’ at Berlin Raceway.

Bush took the checkered flag first on May 13, but a post-race disqualification stripped that from the record book and left him with a one-race suspension, giving the win to Andrew Scheid. As if with something to prove, Bush won by 2.7 seconds, having made the winning pass over Boris Jurkovic with 12 laps to go after starting the race in 12th of 13 cars.

“This car is just a long run car,” Bush said in Victory Lane. “I have the best team there is, my son in law Nick, Kyle and Dan. I have a really good group and without them I wouldn’t be doing this.”

This win also came on his wife, Lorraine’s, birthday. It’s the second time he’s accomplished this following a pair of wins in a twin feature night several years ago.

“That’s totally awesome,” Bush said. “I didn’t think we’d win those double features then either. I told her this morning I had a job to do, ‘to win on your birthday,’ and we got it done.”

The race featured a pair of cautions including one in which Jurkovic came together with Lee Vandyk. Scott Melon spun on his own to bring out the other caution.

Dylan Stovall led most of the race but gave up the spot after the caution for the Melton spin. Before that, Brian Campbell looked like the car to beat following a steady march through the field from an invert but just didn’t have the same speed in the second half.

Bush was fast throughout the race and drove away once in clean air.
