Harrison Burton Wins at New Smyrna

As the fifth night of the World Series at New Smyrna Speedway is underway, the Super Late Model 50-lap feature race has concluded leaving 15-year-old Harrison Burton reigning victorious.

Following two cautions before the first lap completed, Harrison Burton, after starting in the third position, charged for the lead on the restart and never looked back. He completed the next 48 laps and landed himself in Victory Lane.

“Oh, this is so awesome,” Burton said. “The guys worked so hard. We wrecked the car in our last race and pulled out the backup and came out and won the race. It’s unbelievable what this team is capable of.”

For the latter portion of the race, Burton had to fight off the heat of Ty Majeski that was lurking behind him for the win. Burton never fell victim, and he continued on to lead by about a 1.5 second margin. Burton couldn’t believe that he got to take a trip to Victory Lane. He claimed that he was “really really really really really excited.”

He also stated that he was confident with his team about bringing the back up car out for this run.

“I was nothing but confident, you know, with the guys that we’ve got. We can take anything and make it go fast,” Burton said. “This is awesome. This is just incredible.”

Ty Majeski finished in the second position tonight. He hasn’t finished any farther back in the field thus far in the World Series. On the final restart, Majeski never thought he had the car to beat Burton.

“I tried to run him down there, once we got into second. My car was just too tight through the center-off,” Majeski explained. “I couldn’t get the drive off that I really needed to gain any time on him.”

Majeski knew that Burton had the better car and never forced the issue. He didn’t want to put himself in a vulnerable position just to get the win. He is in hopes that the team can figure out what to do to put him in a position to win tomorrow night.

Stephen Nasse started fifth tonight and moved his way all the way up into the top three after David Garbo Jr. crashed out of turn two and ended his night. This has been Nasse’s best finish of the World Series so far this year. However, this year stands out from the past because winning hasn’t been so easy for Nasse.

“This is weird for us. Speedweeks is normally a kind of an easy-win type deal for us,” Nasse said.  “We look forward to it every year, but the guys that are racing with us have picked up their stuff so much.”

Nasse’s team is “doing their homework” in hopes of bringing home a win later on this week.
