Gabe Sommers Racing is making the haul down to beautiful New Smyrna Beach, FL for the 2023 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway with Gabe Sommers scheduled to compete in the Kwik Trip – Rowdy Energy No. 15 Super Late Model in seven of nine nights of racing. The Plover, WI native is excited to return to the iconic racetrack after his efforts across the country in 2022, with a personal goal of finishing on the podium each night while battling against a strong field of Super Late Models.
The driver and crew are prepared for anything and everything that may come their way over the nine day mini-season. Having made the trip to New Smyrna previously has helped the team prepare for what lies ahead, but there are still plenty of unknowns about how the week may unfold each time the car takes to the track.
“We have to bring half of our shop with us”, Sommers said. “It’s a long trip, and we have to be prepared for anything that could happen during. Spare brakes, body panels, bumpers, transmission, and even a quick change rear end all have to get packed in the hauler, just in case.”
So why make the trek down to New Smyrna this season? And what events are the team looking forward to?
“All of the races stick out to me, in fairness,” said Sommers. “I feel that we usually have a lot of long run speed over the course of a race, so the 100 lap Clyde Hart Memorial with the ASA Southern Super Series, and the Orange Blossom 100, would be our best opportunity to show our typical strengths in the format of the week.”
Luckily for all of Gabe and the team’s supporters, fans can watch every night of racing during the World Series of Asphalt live on FloRacing.
