Chase Purdy has always had the Rattler 250 on his short list of Super Late Model races he really wanted to win and it appears that David Gilliland Racing will give him that opportunity on Sunday at South Alabama Speedway.

The 17-year-old posted the fastest lap in single car time trials on Saturday afternoon and will lead the field to green in the Southern Super Series season opener.

Purdy was the 24th driver to turn his two laps, and he dethroned New Smyrna World Series 100 race winner Jeff Choquette from the top spot. Garrett Jones was fastest in practice and turned the third quickest qualifying lap while Snowball Derby winner Christian Eckes and Casey Roderick completed the top-5.

In addition to great short run speed, Purdy thinks he has great long run speed for the race on Sunday too.

“I think our race speed is just as good as our qualifying speed,” Purdy told Short Track Scene over the phone. “We are very consistent and all of the David Gilliland Racing guys gave me a fast Toyota racing Textron off-road Camry.”
