Carson Ware won the rain-shortened CARS Pro Late Model Tour race at Ace Speedway, earning his first career CARS Tour win.
Ware took the lead on lap 15 when Dylan Garner blew an engine, laying fluid on the track in turns one and two and he was one of only two cars to not crash in it. Ware was running fourth when Ben Maier, Brody Monahan, TJ DeCaire, Keelan Harvick, and Isaac Kitzmiller spun in turn one. Ware inherited the lead and the rain came on lap 51, just one lap past the halfway mark, making the race official.
“I had some big shoes to fill with Luke [Baldwin] kicking their butts last week and I’m glad we could do it again this weekend,” Ware said in victory lane.
“Troy [Smith], my crew chief, was talking to me before the race. We knew it was going to be pretty aggressive and we knew we were going to have to try and get as much track position as possible. Luckily, my spotter did an excellent job and we were able to get through turn one and we had it covered from there.”
Rain was the talk all day at Ace. The Late Model Stocks raced through some sprinkles during their 125 lap feature and Ware felt the rain coming down as they approached halfway in the Pro Late Model race.
“It was a little sketchy through three and four,” Ware noted. “I felt pretty good through one and two. We were trying to adjust the line. This car is phenomenal, this team is phenomenal, and I can’t thank my partners enough.”
This is Rick Ware Racing’s second consecutive CARS Pro Late Model Tour win as Baldwin won with them at Orange County Speedway last weekend.
“It’s huge,” Carson said when asked what it means for the team. “This year we really decided to dive deep into this CARS Tour series and FURY Race Cars and everybody that works on these things; they are top tier. I couldn’t do it without them and I’m extremely thankful for this opportunity”.
The race started off fine as Maier led from the pole. Harvick started second but would drop back to fourth as Monahan took second and DeCaire took third. The first caution came 10 laps into the race when Adrian Ferrer got tagged by Rodney Dowless, sending him spinning in turn two.
On the restart, DeCaire took the lead from Maier on the outside, but Maier took it right back the next lap. A few laps later, Garner would blow up, leaving fluid in turns one and two. When the field came back around, everyone except Ware and Dowless crashed, with DeCaire and Harvick receiving race-ending damage.
Ware lined up first for the restart and would stay there until the rain fell on lap 51 ending the race.
