Timmy Solomito earns first NWMT top-five of 2019 at Seekonk

Adam Glanzman | NASCAR

It was a pleasant return to the front of the field for Timmy Solomito on Saturday night.

He and the No. 16 Flamingo Motorsports team earned its first top-five finish of the 2019 season in the Seekonk 150.

“I’ll take it,” Solomito told Short Track Scene. “Happy to be back in tech. That’s good. [The team] is working hard and hopefully we can follow it up at Thompson on Wednesday.”

The season has been frustrating so far. Both mechanical woes and inconsistency have plagued Solomito in 2019, as he has finished on the lead lap in only three of the six races this season.

“We came to Myrtle Beach, we had speed, and the front end broke,” Solomito said. “The way the season started off for us, between broken parts, things falling off, and just dumb luck.”

But there have been some silver linings the last couple of weeks. At both Stafford and Wall Stadium, the team has begun showing speed. While yet another mechanical problem took Solomito out of the Wall race, the pieces, it seems, are starting to come together.

OPINION: Doug Coby is back … good luck with that

“We came to Myrtle Beach, we had speed, and the front end broke,” Solomito said. We showed speed at Wall. We showed speed at Stafford. I think we’re stepping in the right direction… To come here to night and follow Wall up with a pretty good run, I think we can turn our season around from here and just keep digging and keep clawing.”

Timmy Solomito’s last win on the Whelen Modified Tour came in the 2017 season finale at Thompson. That’s where the series heads next for the Thompson 125 this Wednesday.
