One of the veteran young guns of stock car racing has found at least a part-time home in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour for the 2019 season.
Rob Fuller revealed on Friday that Kyle Benjamin will drive the No. 15 ThinkLite/15-40 Connection Tour Modified for LFR Chassis in select races this summer.
Benjamin is just 21-years-old but has been racing full-sized stock cars for nearly a decade. He has multiple starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Gander Outdoor Truck Series, K&N Pro Series, ARCA Racing Series and Late Models.
Specifically, he spent four seaons in a Super Late Model before starting his NASCAR career. He made his Late Model Stock debut last fall in the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway.
And now, he is going to try his hand at the premiere stock car tour in the Northeast.
“The Whelen Modified Tour puts on an exciting brand of racing and I’m grateful for the opportunity given to me by LFR, ThinkLite and 15-40 Connection,” Benjamin said in a press release. “Rob has built an impressive team, both in terms of crew and resources, and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together.”
LFR cars have pulled into victory lane more than 30 times on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and secured each championship over the past four years.
Fuller announced that the team plans to compete at Thompson, Stafford and Loudon this race season and is looking forward to introducing another young driver to the series and team for the remaining races.
“I think it’s great to bring in new talent to the series,” Fuller said. “Kyle seems to be a great kid with a ton of talent. I’m looking forward to introducing him to the modified community and scoring some great finishes for our team and sponsors. Stephen Kopcik will return as our crew chief – he’s a great resource and gives us a strong team again this season.”
