JACKSONVILLE, NC – Paul Williamson ended an over two-year winless drought in Saturday night’s opener at Goodyear All American Speedway.
Prior to Saturday, Williamson’s lone Late Model Stock Car victory had come at Southern National Motorsports Park in 2018. After finishing third in the first of the two Late Model duels at Goodyear All American Speedway on Saturday, Williamson was confident that he had saved enough tires to contend in the second race and, early in the second duel, he had made his move to get past Louis White and drive away with the victory.
“We’ve been waiting for it and getting closer and closer to it every single race,” Williamson said. “These guys are true family. I’m a little emotional, I’m not going to lie. They make it happen and for us to come out here today and do what we did was great, really great.”
The first round of the Late Model doubleheader saw veteran racer Jason York, who had struggled in practice on Friday, return to victory lane with a dominant performance over a riveting four-car battle for second.
“We threw everything in this car and got it right,” York said. “I couldn’t ask for a better car. All my crew, they worked their tails off. I appreciate what they’ve done. They could have been sitting at home in the air conditioning but they came out here to help us and it showed.”
Louis White finished second in both races.
“We got a good car,” White said after the second race. “We started out with not a whole lot of tire and probably used a lot of tire in that first race, probably more than I needed to. Congratulations to Williamson, he just had a better right rear tire than I did and had more forward bite. He won, I’m second.”
Chris Burns, who had struggled for much of the season, finally began to get his season back on track a few weeks ago with a top-10 finish at Virginia’s Dominion Raceway. On Saturday, at Goodyear All American Speedway, he scored a season-high third place finish at a track he’s always loved to race at.
“We’ve struggled with some part failures here and there,” Burns said. “Really, this car ain’t ever been here. To come here for the first time in 10 years and on bump stops, just trying to learn everything. Pretty happy with it.”
Saturday’s opening race at Goodyear All American Speedway was halted for over an hour due to rain which began falling after the first of the two Late Model Stock Car features.
