Martinsville ValleyStar Credit Union 300 starting lineup

Jonathan Findley and Mike Looney won a pair of last chance races for the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway.

While those two won the heats, 18 other drivers locked their way into the 40-car field.

Due to several incidents in the first heat, notable drivers to miss the main event are Jake Crum and Brendan Queen. In the second heat, Chase Dixon and Brandon Pierce collided coming off of Turn 4 in the closing laps to end their chances at racing for the prize, while racing for the 10th and final transfer spot.

“It’s disappointing,” Pierce said. “I made a mistake last night. We tightened up the car a little bit. I just got greedy trying on a big stage. I made a mistake between the seat and steering wheel on my part to put us back there. I am hoping to see some footage. I’m not really sure what happened. Early on in the race, we went ahead and put ourselves in the race, I got extremely loose. I don’t know if I had help or did it all myself coming off of (Turn) 4. I about wrecked. We lost about six or seven spots. On that restart, I made a mistake. We had been talking about which line to go to. I misheard my spotter. I thought he said, ‘Four bottom,’ so I went to the bottom thinking we wouldn’t lose any spots. If I would’ve gone to the top, we would’ve probably been OK. It’s disappointing for sure. It sucks we will miss out for sure. I will be pulling for the boss man (Lee Pulliam) tonight.”

Dixon did not offer comment.

Crum, for his part, was leading the first heat when he was black flagged by race control for jumping a restart inside five laps to go. He was not able to race his way back to 10th.

The 200 lap main event will be broadcast live on FansChoice.TV and the Motor Racing Network. The green flag is expected to wave shortly after 7:00 p.m. ET.
