Kyle Busch was slated to drive for Dale Jr

Kyle Busch was set to make a start in a Late Model Stock for JR Motorsports.

Busch died on Thursday after being admitted to the hospital. He was 41 years old. As part of the outpouring of emotion and memories, Dale Earnhardt Jr. detailed their relationship and revealed that Busch was poised to drive for the organization he co-owns with sister Kelley Earnhardt-Miller.

During their time racing in NASCAR, the pair had a rocky relationship for the most part, but they both wanted to fix that, and Earnhardt said it was Busch who made it possible. The two of them made amends and even shared laughs about their previous run-ins. This helped lead to a conversation Earnhardt reveals they had in a post to social media

“Most recently we had even been discussing him running my Late Model at Wilkesboro this summer,” Earnhardt said in the social media post.” He seemed extremely happy and we had planned to meet up next Thursday to get his seat to the shop. He laughed over the idea of his fans and JRM fans having to cheer in unison during that race.”

The race would have been the CARS Late Model Stock Tour race at North Wilkesboro Speedway in July, a place JR Motorsports has visted victory lane twice before.

“Kyle was one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history,” Earnhardt said to end his post. “No one can deny that. But he was also a father, a husband, brother, son, and a friend to many. My heart is broken for the Busch family. I will never be able to make sense of this loss but I am thankful that we had found a way to become friends.”
