Chad McCumbee has a lot of things going on right now, with split responsibilities to both his Sports Car and Late Model Stock ambitions, but he is all-in on putting the latter in Victory Lane during the 2025 season.

McCumbee Elliott Racing has been more or less full-time in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour since the 2020 season with a victory at Hickory in 2022. The larger challenge has been putting a full season together with McCumbee frequently racing inside or around the top-five but occasionally suffering misfortune

“Right now, obviously, from a broad spectrum, we’ve got a lot of stuff going on right now,” McCumbee told Short Track Scene on Friday prior to practice at New River All American Speedway. “But I want to get back to being full-time on the CARS Tour and enjoying our short track program.

“We do have our IMSA program but we really enjoy being in CARS Tour too. This series is obviously continuing to grow and evolve, change and it’s not getting any easier in terms of upper-level involvement but we’re going to make a run at it this year and see how it goes.”

To his point, the McCumbees are also involved with the McCumbee McAleer Racing which races in IMSA Pilot Challenge, Mazda MX-5 Cup and Ford Mustang Challenge.

McCumbee, also a three-race winner in the ARCA Racing Series, will make his 61st start in the CARS Tour on Saturday night. His best championship finish was fifth when he ran every race in 2022 after winning that race at Hickory.

Matt Weaver is the owner and founder of Short Track Scene. Weaver grew up in the sport, having raced himself before becoming a reporter in college at the University of South Alabama. He also has extensive experience covering NASCAR, IndyCar and Dirt Sprint Cars.
