Tommy Lemons Jr. has already won two Late Model Stock races at Martinsville Speedway, not that he’s going to settle anytime soon.

“I can make room for a third,” he says.

The 30-year-old hasn’t raced much this season, making just six starts in CARS Tour competition and 10 across Hickory, Southern National and Caraway. He’s sank most of that time into elevating his Jumpstart Motorsports entity into a powerhouse.

The Lemons stable will be represented by himself, Craig Stallard, Justin Hicks and Justin Johnson.

“I kind of took a back seat to my customers this year, and haven’t run as much,” Lemons said. “I’m probably a little bit rusty as a result. But I think in the long run our program will benefit from having four different cars and having that much information to draw from.”

The 2013 and 2015 winner can arguably call Martinsville his best track. One more victory would tie him with all-time track leader Philip Morris with three. He and Lee Pulliam are tied with two as the only other two-time winners of the event.

All three are entered into Saturday night’s Valley Star Credit Union 300 — the first under the new LED lighting system.

“I want to tie Philip and I want to win this first night race,” Lemons said. “I ain’t gonna say it tops the first two but it would be right there. Anytime you come here and get a win, that’s amazing. I left the test pretty happy.

“I would have liked to have more balance but it was a good day for all of our cars.”

That’s bad news for the rest of the field.
