In the first year under the management of new owner Robert Tyler, Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina’s schedule will be headlined by a new $10,000-to-win Late Model Stock Car race on Sunday, March 7.
The North Carolina 200.
The race will mark the return of Late Model Stocks are the premier NASCAR Division I class at the speedway for the first time in nearly a decade.
“The North Carolina 200 will be a signature event for Caraway moving forward. It will give our NC drivers something to protect and the out-of-state guys an opportunity for bragging rights if they are able to come to their turf and take the trophy home,” said Tyler in a press release. “Late Model Stocks are seeing a resurgence in the region, as can be seen by the 90 cars that showed up to Martinsville. Lots of young and talented drivers are working their way up to the Late Model Stocks, and we want to support that growth by assembling the most talented drivers in the region for them to learn race craft and battle door to door with.”
While Late Model Stocks will be the Division 1 class at Caraway, Limited Late Models will continue to be a fixture with Charges, Crown Vics, Legends, Bandoleros, Mini Stocks and UCARs will all be routine staples. There will also be specialty events for 602 Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Pro Trucks, and Sportsman.
“The support divisions are the cornerstone of Caraway. Divisions such as the UCAR’s, Chargers, Limiteds, and 602 Crate Modifieds have seen tremendous growth in recent years, and it’s where many of us got into racing,” stated Tyler. “It’s important to me to show my appreciation and give those divisions the spotlight by having some big money races of their own. They will get the driver introductions and be the featured divisions on certain nights throughout the year.”
The track will also host a $10,000-to-win Crown Victoria race on November 6-7 sanctioned by the Crown Vic Outlaw Super Series.
