Tire change for Snowball Derby, Snowflake

For the Snowball Derby in December, Five Flags Speedway has opted to move onto a different tire compound from the races contested during the regular season at the venerable Florida half mile.

Specifically, the Super Bowl of Short Track Racing will utilize the F45*s on both sides after a year on the ST1 left side and ST2 right side combination. This was the result of a multiteam, multichasis test conducted on September 3.

“At the end of the day we feel an obligation to not just our competitors, but to our fans, to offer a platform that produces the best racing possible”, stated track general manager Tim Bryant in a Tuesday press release “While the ST tire program worked well, kudos to Hoosier for continuing their efforts to develop something even better.

“At the recent test the 45* tire gave multiple drivers the feel they were looking for in their race cars, while yielding the proper amount of fall-off everyone was looking for. This change should equate to better side by side racing, and hopefully more passing to excite race fans.”
