Colt James sat on the pole for race No.5 of the Scott Farms Sweet Potato 7 Series and that is where he finished as well, leading all 100 laps and winning his third consecutive race in the series.

James beat a field comprised of Mason Diaz, Mike Pilla, Mike Wallace, Jeff Batten, Nick Robinson, Jake Spiller, Kerry Lawrence, Mark Gibson and Sarah Cornett-Ching. Once it was all said and done, Colt won by 1.529 seconds over Mike Pilla.

“We just had a really good car today,” James said.  “We just hit on something a few weeks ago and have just been tinkering with it for the past few weeks. We tried something a little bit different here this race and it seemed to work, I’m just really blessed to have such a good crew around me. We tried to save a little bit for the final 20 or so laps, I’m just really blessed to have a team this good around me.”

Colt was anxious after sitting through the other races that night but was glad the race was the feature, saying about the later start, coupled with the oppressive heat during practice and qualifying.

“(The delay) really didn’t effect us, being such a late start it feels a lot cooler than it did earlier and it shows on the track, it’s tightened up a lot since practice back at 4pm but we expected it to do so.”

Colt leads the points standings by six points over Mike Pilla and 11 points over Mason Diaz.
